Hand Sketches

While I had learned the history of the ancient world in the classroom, I found true learning took place when I opened my sketch book and put pencil to paper while on a study-abroad program in Rome, Italy. I learned that I can only discover so much about a form by studying it. When drawing it, however, I find time is reversed, and I become the architect — I can feel the form of the building in every stroke of my pencil. To me, this is when architecture is best understood
